Dawn of the Breakers
A freebie game on the Japanese eShop has taken my heart. It’s got English support so maybe it’ll officially pop up on the US shop eventually. I started playing this briefly on Saturday before I had to go out & got more playtime in this morning. There’s something about it that I really like. I know this is a port of a mobile ‘gacha’ game, maybe not the greatest port since it crashed on me when I just completed a quest, but there’s a 90s, Japanese charm that I like. The bright colors, upbeat pop soundtrack, & goofy anime tropes. It hits all the right notes with me right now. Octopath Traveler is only 3 days away so I’ll be occupied with that soon, but in the meantime, I’m going to play this a little bit more.
When I first heard about this game, it seemed right up my alley. I played a few of the NeoGeo Pocket fighting games back in the day & Pocket Rumble really nailed the look. I downloaded it as soon as it was available and while it has the look and the controls are pretty simplified, the computer AI is insanely tough. I can’t even get by the first match. It might be fun to play with Melissa since she likes fighting games, but until the CPU opponents are tweaked, I won’t be getting much solo play out of it. Quinn might be the main character I play as, but I’m interested in Hector and Naomi too.
Shenmue I & II
As soon as I saw this was available, I purchased. It’s coming out very close to my birthday so, I’ll count it as an early gift to myself. To be quite honest, I don’t know when I’ll spend time in my living room in front of the tv to play this, but I want to support this project, have it on a modern console, have all 3 games on 1 console, & finally play the sequel that I never imported.
Indivisible (opening sneak peek)
Dang, this is looking good! I’m glad I backed it and can’t wait to get it on my Switch. Also another reason I don’t know when I’ll be parked on the couch to play the Shenmue remaster.
Give me kawaii, Give me shounen
I’m still keeping up with a few of the seasonal shows like “Lupin III”, “My Hero Academia”, & “Gegege no Kitaro” - as well as my unwind shows: “Mainichi Kaasan”, “Shonen Ashibe Go! Go! Goma-chan”, & “Karakai Jozu no Takagi-san”. I’ve also been in the mood for trope-y, dubbed anime. Stuff that would’ve been shown on Toonami & [adult swim] on Saturday nights or I would’ve picked up on a VHS/DVD. Watching the dubs gives me a very specific feeling and reminds me of a certain time. On my list right now are:
- My Bride Is A Mermaid
- Sasami Magical Girls Club
- El Cazador de la Bruja
- Save Me! Lollipop
- Sands of Destruction
- Soul Eater
- Black Clover
- The Disasterous Life of Saiki K.
Early Fall Feels
Stores have been putting back to school & Fall merchandise out since June. I’ve really been into watching 70s & 80s horror movies these days. I haven’t done anything Summer-like other than eat ice cream, mow the lawn, & turn on central air to stay cool. Maybe I’m ready for the next season already?
The Adventure/Comedy/Action/Sci-Fi/Horror/Fantasy Genre
The last thing I’ve been into these days are the big adventure/comedy/action flicks. Recently I watched “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” & was really into it & thought “I don’t remember this one coming out. This is pretty good. Do they make movies like this anymore?” I rewatched “Hellboy 2”, “The Brothers Grimm”, & “Van Helsing” too. I’m hungry for popcorn flicks like these. I’ll be watching “Stealth” & “Journey To The Center Of The Earth” next.
